Two arrested as Gardai seize €280,000 worth of cocaine following raids in Laois and Kildare

Two men have been arrested after Gardai seized a combined total of €280,000 worth of cocaine following a number of searches on Thursday morning.

Gardai stopped a car on the M7 at around 8.25am near Portlaoise and seized €35,000 worth of cocaine.

A man aged in his late 40s, the only person in the car, has been arrested and is currently detained at Birr Garda Station under Section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act 1996.

Gardai then carried out a follow up search a house in Kill, Co. Kildare, where approximately 3.5kg of cocaine, valued at a whopping €245,000 in a cabin on the property.

A garda spokesman said they suspected that the cabin was being used as a location to mix and pack controlled drugs.

A press, scales and other drugs paraphernalia, as well as €3,500 in cash and two vehicles were also seized.

A second man, aged in his 50s, was arrested at the scene.

He was taken to Ronanstown Garda Station where he is currently detained under Section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act 1996.

Gardai say investigations are ongoing.
