Two arrested after thugs hold number of children at knifepoint in Skerries, North Dublin

Some incredible quick-thinking from a 12-year-old girl helped gardai arrest two suspects after a number of young kids were held at knifepoint in a North Dublin town.

Gardai rushed to the scene in Skerries on Friday after the girl managed to alert them to two youths after a 13-year-old boy had been chased with a knife.

In a separate incident a different young girl, also 12, reportedly had a knife held to her neck as gardai confirmed a string of horrific threats in the usually-peaceful seaside town.

In one incident, the youths allegedly approached three friends near the Community Centre in Skerries before asking for money and then demanding their phones.

The three innocent kids, two girls and a boy, allegedly had their pockets checked by the gang who then made them empty out a bag.

Luckily the group didn't have anything taken as they had left their possession in a pocket of the bag that the thugs didn't check.

After getting frustrated, one of the alleged attacker took out a knife and ordered his accomplice to "stab" the 13-year-old boy.

The boy was then chased meanwhile the brave girl took out her phone and rang gardai.

The alleged attackers were unable to catch the boy and gave up and left.

Officers arrived on the Dublin road and soon mad two arrests after the girl gave them a description.

The kids were then taken to Balbriggan garda station and collected by their parents.

A garda spokesperson said the arrested youths were later released pending referral to the Garda Youth Deferral Office

A spokesperson said: "Following a number of alleged robbery from the persons incidents on youths in the Skerries area on Friday 2nd August 2019, gardai in Balbriggan arrested two male youths and they were detained at Balbriggan Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

"They have since been released pending referral to the Garda Youth Deferral Office."
