Two arrested after police find fake gun inside 'suspicious vehicle'

Two men have been arrested after an imitation firearm was found inside a 'suspicious vehicle'.

Police first spotted the vehicle 'being driven erratically' in Salford on Thursday (February 16). Officers followed it in an unmarked car to north Manchester.

The vehicle was pulled on Park Hill Avenue in Crumpsall and two men in the car were detained. Officers found the fake gun inside the vehicle and both suspects were arrested on suspicion of firearms offences.

The vehicle was seized and both men were taken to custody to be quizzed by detectives. Tests revealed the gun was an imitation firearm.

Inspector Jon Ezard, GMP’s lead for Operation Venture, a team dedicated to tackling serious violence and knife crime across Greater Manchester, said: "This action has resulted in a really positive result with two men in custody.

"Converted imitation firearms are unfortunately something we are increasingly seeing and activity such as this demonstrates that those found in possession of such a weapon will be arrested."
