Two arrested after drugs found in Llanelli town hall gardens

A man and woman were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply in Llanelli’s town hall gardens over the weekend.

Dyfed-Powys officers were patrolling the area on Saturday, June 20 when they were flagged down by a member of the public over concerns about a group using drugs in the gardens.

The group was questioned by officers and while they were getting up to leave a small container fell to the floor that allegedly contained cannabis. Drugs were also allegedly found in a carrier bag.

A 28-year-old man was arrested at the scene and a woman was located and later arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply.

Warrants later found a number of items at properties in Llys y Gof and George Street, Llanelli.

Locals say that the area surrounding the town hall gardens and Llanelli's People's Park is often rife with anti-social behaviour, vandalism and cannabis can often be smelled walking through the gardens.

Llanelli Sergeant Matthew Langley said: “As the group stood up to leave, a small container fell to the floor, which was found to have cannabis inside.

“Two PCs arrived and arrested a 28-year-old man at the scene. One of the women tried to leave, taking a carrier bag with her, which was then found to contain a quantity of drugs.

“Warrants were later executed at addresses in Llys y Gof and George Street, Llanelli, under the Misuse of Drugs Act, with a number of items seized.

“The woman who had been with the group at town hall gardens was located, and was in possession of a number of tablets. She was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply.”

The two people arrested have been released under investigation while further enquiries are carried out.
