Two arrested after car 'stolen in Broken Hill' crashes near Wyong

POLICE have arrested two people after a crash involving a car allegedly stolen in Broken Hill on the Central Coast.

Traffic and Highway Patrol Command officers attempted to stop a Holden Commodore on River Road at Wyong about 7.30am on Friday after checks revealed it was reported stolen.

"It's alleged the vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated; however, it was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns," police said in a statement.

Officers found the vehicle crashed into a tree on Yarramalong Road shortly before 8am.

The male driver, aged in his 20s, was trapped before he was released and flown to hospital.

Police said he had suffered non life-threatening injuries.

A female front seat passenger also aged in her 20s suffered a suspected broken leg.

She was taken to the John Hunter Hospital under police guard.

Another passenger, a 25-year-old Woy Woy man, was not hurt. He was arrested and taken to Wyong police station.

Tuggerah Lakes police say they are investigating the circumstances but initial inquiries suggest the car was stolen from Broken Hill earlier this week.
