Two arrested after 370kg drug bust

Ephedrine, a white powder, is used to manufacture methamphetamine.

An illegal drug importation syndicate has been disrupted by the Australian Border Force and New South Wales Police.

Officers began investigating in March this year after finding ephedrine hidden in a metal canister that was part of a sea cargo consignment.

In April, police searched another consignment and found the drug concealed in wall tiles.

Ephedrine, a white powder, is used to manufacture methamphetamine, commonly known as "ice".

Following the detections a joint task force, dubbed Accinge, was formed to target the syndicate behind the importations.

They tracked a consignment believed to be linked to the syndicate and found milking machines containing ephedrine wrapped in silver foil.

About 370 kilograms of the drug were seized, and police have arrested two people over the alleged importation.

Police claimed the bust would stop about three million hits of ice hitting the streets.
