Two arrested after 15-year-old seriously injured in 'senseless and violent attack'

A 15-year-old boy has suffered serious injuries after allegedly being assaulted.

Police were called to Royal Bolton Hospital last night, following reports of an earlier assault near Settle Street, Great Lever, Bolton.

According to Greater Manchester Police (GMP), the boy is in a stable condition.

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault involving wounding with intent and a 20-year-old man has also been arrested on suspicion of a public order offence.

A police cordon was in place on the footpath which runs parallel to Rupert Street throughout Monday.

Pictures show forensics officers working at the scene, while police officers guarded the cordon which covers a stretch of footpath below Settle Street.

A GMP spokesman said: "Police were called at around 11.15pm yesterday (August 8, 2021) to the Royal Bolton Hospital following a report of an assault on a teenage boy.

"Enquiries suggest that a 15-year-old boy was attacked while in an area near Settle Street, Bolton, between 7.30pm and 8pm.

"The teenage boy sustained serious injuries and remains in hospital. He remains in hospital in a stable condition.

"Enquiries are ongoing and a 17 year old male has been arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault - wounding with intent. A 20-year-old male has also been arrested on suspicion of a public order offence. They both remain in custody."

Detective Sergeant Dominic Beaver of GMP's Bolton district, added: “We are following all available lines of enquiry to ensure the person responsible for this senseless and violent attack is brought to justice.
