Two areas in Scotland listed in top 10 UK places with the biggest wage bumps

If you're looking for higher pay, you might want to consider where you live as well as where you work, as some areas have seen larger raises than others.

The UK areas with the largest pay rises last year have been revealed, with the top spot seeing an average 34.96 percent salary increase.

Two Scottish areas have been named among those which have received a hefty pay bump from 2021 to 2022, according to ONS data.

The research, which was carried out by financial services provider CMC Markets, ranked East Dunbartonshire fifth and Midlothian ninth.

East Dunbartonshire had an average hourly pay of £14.99 in 2021, which has increased by 19.35 percent in 2022 to £17.89.

And Midlothian had a 16.58 percent pay rise on average according to the data, with workers' hourly wage going from £15.38 to £17.93.

2 Maldon £14.67 £19.33 33.77 percent
3 Cotswolds £14.23 £17.81 24.89 percent
4 Sutton £16.82 £20.73 23.25 percent
5 East Dunbartonshire £14.99 £17.89 19.35 percent
6 Bury £14.67 £17.43 18.81 percent
7 West Oxfordshire £16.42 £19.33 17.72 percent
8 Uttlesford £17.12 £19.97 16.65 percent
9 Midlothian £15.38 £17.93 16.58 percent
10 Three Rivers £21.13 £24.63 16.56 percent

Topping the list was the Leicestershire area of Melton which saw a huge increase from £13.33 in 2021 to £17.99 in 2022.

Commenting on the findings, CMC Markets' chief market analyst Michael Hewson said: "What’s fascinating to see is the huge wage growth in so many areas, and how it isn’t just tied to one area with locations across Britain making their way into the top ten.

"This wage growth is also seen outside of financial hubs and major cities, which may make people question whether the inner city pressure is worth it."
