Two among Roorkee gang-rape accused BKU men, expelled

MUZAFFARNAGAR: Days after a six-year-old girl and her mother were allegedly gang-raped in Roorkee, the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) expelled two of its members whose names were among the accused, according to the union's divisional president Naveen Rathi. Accused Subodh Kakran and Vicky Tomar, both residents of Muzaffarnagar, were members of BKU and were arrested on Thursday.

They were booked under various sections of the IPC and Pocso Act, including gang-rape. Rathi, president of the Saharanpur zone, issued a termination letter to the two which stated, "The two were found indulging in anti-social activities and have therefore been expelled from the BKU with immediate effect. They have nothing to do with the organisation anymore."

Soon after the development, media in-charge of the newly formed BKU- A, Dharmender Malik, launched an attack. "They joined BKU three years back and even then, I suspected there was something wrong with their characters," he said.

He posted pictures of the accused Kakran and Tomar with other BKU workers.

Media in-charge of BKU, Arjun Balyan, said, "We condemn their act. Strong action as per law must be taken against them if they have committed the crime".

(The victims' identity has not been revealed to protect their privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
