Two Afghan trainees missing from Moody Air Force Base

Two male Afghan nationals have gone missing from a US Air Force base in Georgia.

Officials at Moody Air Force Base, around 230 miles south of Atlanta, said the two students did not report to "regular maintenance training" with the 81st Fighter Squadron on Monday.

They said the two men have been at the base since February and "were screened prior to their arrival in the United States more than a year ago."

"The students have trained alongside American counterparts for the entirety of 2015 and do not pose any apparent threat," a statement from the base said.

"There is a well-coordinated process among federal agencies to locate the individuals as quickly as possible and return them accordingly to the proper authorities to manage their present situation."

The US is on high alert after the terror attack in San Bernardino last week, which killed 14 people.

The military is working with law enforcement to find the two men as soon as possible.
