Two adults and three teens rushed to hospital after serious crash in Co Carlow

Five people have been rushed to hospital after a bad crash in Carlow this evening.

A woman in her 40s, man in his 20s and three teenagers needed hospital treatment after the crash on the N81 near Tullow.

Gardai and the local fire brigade closed off the road at 4pm this afternoon after the two car collision.

At the moment it is not clear how badly hurt those involved were - they are currently in Kilkenny's St Luke's Hospital.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí attended a 2 vehicle RTC that occurred at Ardistan, Tullow at approximately 4pm this afternoon.

"A female in her 40s, male in his 20s and three juveniles in their late teens were taken to St Luke's Hospital with their injuries."

The road remains closed this evening as a result of the crash with the fire service warning people to avoid the area.

Carlow County Fire and Rescue Service said earlier: "N81 closed between Tullow and the junction with the N80, please avoid the area and take an alternative route."
