Two abandoned streets left to rot amid the trees are to be demolished

Two streets in Merthyr Vale earmarked for demolition will be razed to the ground this week.

Diggers are set to roll in to Taff Street and Crescent Street later this week and start the process of knocking down every single house.

The houses on both streets have lain empty and stripped to the bone since Merthyr council made the decision to buy up every house and demolish them.

In 2018, the council proceeded with a Compulsory Purchase Order on the 100 properties after it decided they were unsafe to live in long term due to the risk of flooding.

Those families who used to call the two streets home were forced to move out and watch their former homes left to rot.

Darren Roberts, councillor for Aberfan, Merthyr Vale and Mount Pleasant, has confirmed that Walters Demolition will go ahead with the demolition works this week.

Walters, based in Hirwaun, Aberdare and with offices in Bristol and Stratford Upon Avon, is an expert in civil engineering and demolition works.
