March 04--Two 16-year-old boys have been charged with killing another 16-year-old boy in the Austin neighborhood in what was the 99th homicide of 2016, according to authorities.
Tiawyan McDade killed Dijuan Williams near Huron Street and Lorel Avenue in the city's Austin neighborhood, according to prosecutors. McDade was ordered held Thursday in lieu of $1 million bail.
He and another boy, a 16-year-old charged as a juvenile who authorities did not name, are accused of approaching Williams and asking about a gang affiliation before McDade shot Williams at the other juvenile's direction.
The shooting happened on Feb. 24 about 6:15 p.m. It was the 99th homicide this year in Chicago.
Williams was with two others who weren't injured in the shooting and all three denied having any gang affiliations, according to prosecutors.
McDade and the other juvenile fled east after the shooting, prosecutors said.
Not long after the shooting, police spotted two boys put a bag into a garbage can about a block from McDade's home.
After hearing a description of the shooting suspects, the officers realized they matched the boys they saw dump the bag in the garbage can. When the officers returned to the garbage can they found a black bag with a gun inside.
Police found a receipt inside the bag for a person with the same last name and home address as McDade, according to authorities.
At least one witness identified McDade and the other boy, according to court documents. Officials also tested a recovered bullet and determined that it was fired from the .357 revolver found in the garbage can, prosecutors said in court.
Dijuan Williams, who the boys accused of killing, died of a single through-and-through gunshot wound at West Suburban Medical Center, according to authorities.
