Two 13-year-old boys riding motorcycle crash into car at Newton Aycliffe junction

Police have issued a stark warning after two 13-year-old boys riding a motorcycle crashed into a car in County Durham.

The incident happened at the junction of Ida Place and Woodham Way, in Newton Aycliffe, on Thursday night.

Newton Aycliffe Police said the boys rode across the junction and collided with the car travelling towards Burnhill Way.

Neither boys or the driver of the car were seriously hurt.

However, both boys suffered leg injuries as a result of the crash.

Officers said there has been a rise in the number of young people riding around on the “dangerous machines”, and warned the incident could have been “tragic”.

A spokesman for Newton Aycliffe Police said: “For a number of months now we have seen rising numbers of incidents where young people put themselves, and members of the community, at risk by flying around the area on these dangerous machines.

“Despite engagement, education and enforcement, youths and their parents are not thinking about what could happen when allowed to use off-road bikes and quads.

“ This incident could have been tragic.

"Please let this be a warning to other riders as to the consequences of their actions, and the devastation it can cause for families and communities”.

Anyone with any information which could assist in the investigation of this collision is askedto ring Durham Police on 101 and quote incident reference 379 of November 12.
