THE CEO of Twitter/X, Linda Yaccarino, has announced she is stepping down from her position.
The news comes after the platform's AI bot, Grok, posted a series of antisemitic responses to users and called itself "MechaHitler".
Yaccarino said in a statement she was leaving the role after "two incredible years", though failed to mention the offensive posts from Grok.
She wrote: "After two incredible years, I’ve decided to step down as CEO of X.
"When @elonmusk and I first spoke of his vision for X, I knew it would be the opportunity of a lifetime to carry out the extraordinary mission of this company.

"I’m immensely grateful to him for entrusting me with the responsibility of protecting free speech, turning the company around, and transforming X into the Everything App.
"I’m incredibly proud of the X team - the historic business turn around we have accomplished together has been nothing short of remarkable."
Yaccarino went on to praise Elon Musk's xAI, the firm behind Grok, saying "the best is yet to come" thanks to its presence on the platform.
The former CEO said in her statement that the social media company had undergone "critical early work necessary to prioritize the safety of our users" after Musk purchased the platform in 2022.
Despite aiming to prioritise user safety, there has been a marked rise in hate speech allowed on Twitter/X. The site was taken to court in Australia in 2023 over hateful content, and The National previously reported on criticisms of the platform becoming a "hotbed for anti-Palestinian racism".
Musk hired Yaccarino, a former advertising executive, in May 2023 after buying Twitter for $44 billion (£32.4 billion).
He said at the time that Yaccarino’s role would be focused mainly on running the company’s business operations, leaving him to focus on product design and new technology.
