Twitter users affected by Forth Road Bridge closure see the funny side

Forth Road Bridge empty after closure – video

The closure of the Forth Road Bridge will mean heavy disruption over the Christmas and New Year period for hundreds of thousands of motorists. The bridge, which spans the Firth of Forth and connects Scots to and from Edinburgh was unexpectedly closed until early 2016 after structural problems were found.

The news has been hard to take for many – the added detours will extend journey times, throwing festive travel plans askew but, while many expressed their anger at the sudden news, other people decided to take the announcement on the chin and, using the ForthRoadBridge hashtag, reacted with good humour.

They tweeted joke pictures of repair works and of what disasters may have caused the damage, as well as speculating on other ways people will make their way to and from Fife now that the bridge is out of action.

And some used the closure to poke fun at the political divisions in Scotland after the referendum vote that saw independence rejected and the subsequent general election successes of the Scottish National party.
