Twitter said Thursday that over the last two weeks it labeled around 300,000 tweets that carried disputed and possibly misleading information about the U.S. election.
The California-based social media giant, criticized for spreading misinformation in 2016, has worked to crack down on bogus posts amid a frenzied and falsehood-stained political climate.
About 1-in-500 election-related chirps between Oct. 27 and Nov. 11 received labels, according to Twitter.
Twitter's general counsel, Vijaya Gadde, and its head of product, Kayvon Beykpour, promised in a blog post that the platform will continue to flag election fiction in the future. They wrote that "our work here continues and our teams are learning and improving."
Twitter's efforts have played out most publicly on President Donald Trump's account, as the company has repeatedly flagged or obscured the commander-in-chief's chirps.
On Thursday, Trump continued to carry out his unprecedented and unsupported attack on the presidential election process.
"Rigged Election!" he tweeted at 10:16 a.m.
Blue lettering beneath the tweet cautioned: "This claim about election fraud is disputed."
