Twitter’s reaction as Georgia’s Malcolm Mitchell retires

Today, former Georgia football star Malcolm Mitchell announced his retirement from football. Mitchell played several seasons in the NFL, including playing a key part in New England’s Super Bowl comeback victory over the Atlanta Falcons:

Mitchell’s Super Bowl performance was sadly the final game of his career. He’s been plagued by knee injuries. Beyond his contributions on the field, Mitchell made an even larger impact off the field. Mitchell was the definition of a student athlete and took advantage of the opportunity he had at Georgia to learn as much as he could and to help others.

Malcolm Mitchell entered Georgia reading at just a 3rd grade level. He joined a women’s reading group and has started his own a writing career. Mitchell was given the David Jacobs award for courage and spirit, the Haier Achievement award and the 2016 Community Spirit award. https://t.co/icaE2Ab0jP

BREAKING: Former UGA and New England Patriots WR Malcolm Mitchell has publicly announced his retirement from the NFL. Mitchell had been dealing with issues with his knee, and underwent a knee procedure in July.
