Twitter's 'Lights Out' Dark Mode launches on Android - here's how to enable it

Since it launched on iOS users back in March, Twitter’s ‘Lights Out’ Dark Mode has proved to be one of its most popular features.

Lights Out is a pure black colour palette that emits no light since pixels are turned off.

This makes it much easier on the eyes, particularly when browsing Twitter in darker environments.

When it was announced back in March, Bryan Haggerty, Senior Design Manager at Twitter, said: “Giving more people options to personalise their experience on Twitter based on what makes them most comfortable is what the latest update to Dark Mode is all about.”

While the feature was previously only available for iOS users, Twitter has finally rolled it out on Android.

It tweeted: “Welcome to the dark side, Android users. You can now go lights out on Twitter.”

How to enable Lights Out Dark Mode

Android

1. Open your Twitter app, and tap your photo in the top left corner

2. In the bottom left corner, tap the lightbulb icon - this will turn Light Out mode on

iPhone

1. Go to Settings, then Display and Sound

2. There, you can toggle Dark mode on or off, and choose whether you'd prefer Dim or Lights Out. You can also toggle automatic dark mode on and off here
