Twitter reacts to the Bears signing LT Jason Peters

The Chicago Bears took care of business in their preseason opener against the Miami Dolphins, where rookie quarterback Justin Fields helped lead them to a 20-13 victory on Saturday.

Immediately after the win, news broke that nine-time Pro Bowl left tackle Jason Peters was signing a one-year deal with the Bears.

The timing of the signing couldn’t be better as the first-team offensive line, still without rookie Teven Jenkins, was shaky in the preseason opener. Elijah Wilkinson, who started at left tackle in place of Jenkins, had a rough outing, which apparently prompted Ryan Pace to make a move for a starting left tackle.

Sure, Peters is 39, entering his 18th season and struggled staying healthy of late. But he immediately brings some much-needed experience and stability to the tackle position. It’s a low-risk, high-reward signing for the Bears. But it doesn’t sound good for Jenkins.

Twitter had plenty to say about the Peters signing, where many are hoping he’s still got enough left in the tank to help an otherwise gloomy outlook for the offensive line.
