Twitter is working on an edit button and its users are conflicted

Turns out, Twitter’s April Fools’ joke wasn’t a joke at all!

On Tuesday, Twitter announced that the website is working on an edit feature for tweets. This comes just one day after Elon Musk became Twitter’s largest shareholder with a near 10 percent purchase. Musk then polled his followers about the possibility of an edit button on the site, a poll that was overwhelmingly in favor of adding one.

Outside of the fact that Twitter has been internally working on an edit feature since last year and will be testing it on Twitter Blue in the coming months, we know very little about how this feature will work on the site and for users worldwide.

For many Twitter users, an edit button has been an elusive white whale as a feature that can help catch typos and poor grammar before being seen by their follower base. For others, however, an edit button is a scary proposition that opens a huge Pandora’s box depending on how it’s implemented.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to the news of an edit button.
