Twitter is down: Desktop site crashes for frustrated users across the UK and US

It's one of the most popular social media sites around the world, but it seems that Twitter's desktop site has crashed this afternoon.

According to Down Detector, the problems started at around 14:42 GMT, and are affecting people in both the UK and US.

While the reason for the outage remains unclear, of those who reported issues, 85% said they were struggling with the website, 8% with the Android app, and 6% with the iOS app.

Twitter is yet to comment on the outage, although Mirror Online has contacted them for comment.

Several people have taken to the Twitter mobile site to discuss the desktop version's outage, with many sharing screenshots of a page which reads 'Something is technically wrong.'

One user tweeted: "Morning! Is somebody else having this issue with Twitter when trying to log in or log out?"

Another added: "Is it just me of is Twitter acting up?"

And one wrote: "So anyone else have twitter go down completely for a few minutes there?"

Twitter reacts to Facebook's new logo

This isn't the first time in recent weeks that Twitter has experienced problems.

The app last crashed for users across the UK and US back in December, with many users seeing the same 'Something is technically wrong' message.

Thankfully, the outage didn't last long, and around 20 minutes after it went down, Twitter was back up and running.
