Twitter is down as tens of thousands of users struggle to access website and app

Twitter is reportedly down this afternoon as tens of thousands of users struggle to get on the website.

More than 28,000 reports of outages on the social media platform have been registered on the website DownDetector at around 1pm this afternoon.

Around 57 per cent of people say they cannot access the app, while 38 per cent are struggling to access the website.

Six per cent of reports of problems have also been made about the feed on the social media site.

One DownDetector user wrote: “Twitter is down…but I’m still getting notifications from people tweeting and retweeting.”

Another said: “I thought it was just me. Come on Twitter, sort it out.”

A third wrote: “Twitter has crashed completely.”

People attempting to use the website are met with the error message: “Something went wrong. Try reloading.”

When further attempts are made to refresh the website, the same message continues to pop up.

The app also gives users the message: “Cannot retrieve tweets at this time. Please try again later.”

Twitter has been approached for comment.
