Thousands of people were unable to access their Twitter accounts this morning.

As of 9am, according to monitoring site Downdetector, there had been more than 1,000 reports of issues with the social media site in the UK.

And even many of those who could log in were unable to access the site’s search and notification functions. Other users had no issues.

The problems appeared to have been resolved by 10am. Twitter is yet to reveal what caused the outage.

Twitter had said in a statement: “We've been experiencing outages across Twitter and TweetDeck.

“You might have had trouble Tweeting, getting notifications, or viewing DMs.

“We're currently working on a fix, and should be back to normal soon.”
