Twitter down for thousands of UK users amid outage mostly affecting browsers

Twitter has crashed for thousands of users in the UK, according to a website that monitors social media outages. Downdetector recorded a peak of 10,135 outages at 10.55pm on Monday.

An incident is only reported by Downdetector when the number of problem reports is significantly higher than the typical volume for that time of day. Despite the issues social media users were still able to tweet their confusion at Twitter not being fully operational for them.

The problem appears to be affecting many users' ability to use the micro-blogging platform on browsers through their computers. Many reported still being able to use Twitter through its app.

At 10.13pm one person tweeted: "Twitter down on pc but working on my phone". Another wrote at the same time: "Anyone else having issue accessing twitter in a browser?"

Of all the reported problems with Twitter on Monday evening, Downdetector noted that 90% were with the website. Some 6% were the result of a server connection and just 3% of issues were with the app.
