Twitter confirms outages across the UK

Twitter has confirmed it's experiencing outages in parts of the UK, which are affecting many of the social network's functions.

A heat map on tech website Down Detector reveals a high volume of reported problems in the South of England, as well as smaller areas of problems across Wales, Birmingham and Manchester.

On attempting to login, many people are receiving the message: "Something is technically wrong. Thanks for noticing - we're going to fix it up and have things back to normal soon."

In some locations, users can still access Twitter.com, but may not be able to view direct messages, or may have trouble adding images, videos and polls to tweets.

Many people have also complained of not being able to access the twitter service Tweetdeck, which usually allows users to schedule tweets and perform advanced searches.

According to outage monitoring website Outage.report, more than 4,000 people have reported issues to their Tweetdeck service.

The social network acknowledged the problem on their Twitter Support account this morning.

A spokesperson tweeted: "We've been experiencing outages across Twitter and TweetDeck.

"You might have had trouble Tweeting, getting notifications, or viewing DMs. We're currently working on a fix, and should be back to normal soon."
