Beauty and the Beast star Emma Watson is drawing the ire of feminists on social media for her recent photoshoot for Vanity Fair. The actor, who is identifies as a feminist and is known for regularly extending her support to women’s causes, is being called a ‘hypocrite’ by some on the internet.
Watson is seen wearing only a white rope bolero from Burberry and a skirt in the photo. Her breasts are almost entirely exposed.
The artistic photoshoot is done by famous British fashion photographer Tim Walker. The rest of the pictures are feature a more modest choice of clothes.
However, the shoot has not gone down well with a lot of people on Twitter. They are accusing Watson of not staying true to her feminist ideals and doing a topless shoot ‘for the lads.’
fuck Emma Watson for shaming Beyoncé and discrediting her feminism for being sexual; and then turning around to do a topless shoot though.

Respect to Emma Watson. Feminism means a woman's OWN choice. If she wants to pose semi-topless its HER OWN choice not anyone else's. ☮️ pic.twitter.com/5WTwO1BrlC

Funny how Emma Watson was every guy I know's example of a dream girl- ladylike, smart, pretty- but now she's a feminist, she's just awful!

People saying @EmmaWatson isn't a feminist because of her latest vanity fair photo shoot are idiots. She can do whatever the feck she wants!

For heaven's sake. I'm no Emma Watson fan, but she hasn't sacrificed her feminist principles. It's her body to do what she likes with.

If your feminism involves concern trolling Emma Watson's boobs, perhaps you need to check your premises. HARD. #rpt

Watson is a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador. She started the campaign HeForShe and also runs a feminist book club.
In the accompanying interview to Vanity Fair shoot, she talked about her upcoming film Beauty and the Beast, her thoughts on feminism and why she intends to keep her life private. “For me, it’s the difference between being able to have a life and not. If someone takes a photograph of me and posts it, within two seconds they’ve created a marker of exactly where I am within 10 metres. They can see what I’m wearing and who I’m with. I just can’t give that tracking data... Privacy for me is not an abstract idea,” Watson said.
She added sometimes she will be up for an autograph or even a chat with the admirers, instead of a photograph. “I will sit here and answer every single Harry Potter fandom question you have but I just can’t do a picture,” she added. She, however, finds it difficult to disappoint her young fans. Watson said, “When am I a celebrity sighting versus when am I going to make someone’s freakin’ week? Children I don’t say no to, for example.”
