However, the shoot has not gone down well with a lot of people on Twitter. They are accusing Watson of not staying true to her feminist ideals and doing a topless shoot ‘for the lads.’

Some are, however, just being plain mean:

Some fans have also come out in support of her right to wear whatever she likes.

Watson is a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador. She started the campaign HeForShe and also runs a feminist book club.

In the accompanying interview to Vanity Fair shoot, she talked about her upcoming film Beauty and the Beast, her thoughts on feminism and why she intends to keep her life private. “For me, it’s the difference between being able to have a life and not. If someone takes a photograph of me and posts it, within two seconds they’ve created a marker of exactly where I am within 10 metres. They can see what I’m wearing and who I’m with. I just can’t give that tracking data... Privacy for me is not an abstract idea,” Watson said.

She added sometimes she will be up for an autograph or even a chat with the admirers, instead of a photograph. “I will sit here and answer every single Harry Potter fandom question you have but I just can’t do a picture,” she added. She, however, finds it difficult to disappoint her young fans. Watson said, “When am I a celebrity sighting versus when am I going to make someone’s freakin’ week? Children I don’t say no to, for example.”
