Twitter has taken hilarious aim at the Chancellor of the Exchequer after he claimed to be on his way to 'north England'.
As social media users were quick to point out, Bromsgrove MP Sajid Javid's choice of phrase, as he travelled up to Sunderland for a cabinet meeting to mark Britain's exit from the EU, was a little bit strange.
He said: "On way to Cabinet meeting in north England with friends [Dominic Raab and Liz Truss]'
'Northern England', 'the North of England', 'the North East' or even just 'the North' would be more normal.
And far be it for those on social media to let a bit of clumsy phrasing slide, 'north England' was quickly trending, as locals mocked politicians' seemingly poor understanding of all things Northern.
The Independent's political correspondent Ashley Cowburn tweeted: "I'm off to north England" said precisely no one ever from up north."
@david_varley added: "Ahh yes the famous city of North England. Just down the road from Eee By Gum town right."
@scattermoon quipped: " These days we call it North England and not the Former Yugoslav Republic of England"
@sophielevin11 added: "Ah yes, "north England". Just what we local plebs call it, in between trips down the mine and mouthfuls of pie."
"Eee lad, we’re off to that there North England," tweeted popular legal account The Secret Barrister.
But some were willing to overlook the unusual phrasing, saying they were happy to see the cabinet on their way.
