The chief executive of Twitter has named entrepreneur Elon Musk as his favourite tweeter.

Twitter boss Jack Dorsey said he “liked” the way the Tesla boss used the social media platform despite acknowledging the "ups and downs" of his controversial tweets.

When asked who Mr Dorsey thought the “most exciting” person on Twitter was, he said: “To me personally? I like how Elon Musk uses Twitter. He’s focused on solving existential problems and sharing his thinking openly.

“I respect that a lot, and all the ups and downs that come with it.”

In response, Mr Musk said: “Thanks Jack, Twitter rocks!”

Some were quick to criticise Mr Dorsey’s opinion though, who noted several scandals Mr Musk has courted on the platform.

The billionaire has faced criticism in the past over his tweets, most famously for alleging one of the rescue divers who saved a group of boys from a cave in Thailand was a paedophile.

Mr Musk is currently being sued by the British diver for his remarks, which came after the team turned down Mr Musk’s offer to send a submarine to free the Thai football team and their coach last year.

Vernon Unsworth branded Mr Musk's offer to help as a "PR stunt" and claimed it "had absolutely no chance of working".

In response Mr Musk repeatedly alleged that Mr Unsworth was a paedophile.

Mr Musk also faced a backlash after tweeting that he was considering taking Tesla private at $420 a share.
