Twitter and Instagram remove controversial Versatile mock video depicting images of sex act with man pretending to be Leo Varadkar

Twitter and Instagram have removed a controversial mock video allegedly posted by Dublin rappers Versatile depicting images of a man engaging in sex acts with a person pretending to be Leo Varadkar.

The controversial skit, which was posted on Thursday night, showed a man strolling down Merrion St towards The Dail.

Next a man is seen going into an office with the words "Mr. Varadkar" written on the door before being depicted having sex with an another man who filmakers pretend is the Taoiseach.

Actors also took part in the video and are seen standing outside the office with their ears up against the door.

The video online for around 24 hours before Twitter took the decision to remove it fully while Instagram took it down soon after posting.

Twitter did not give an exact reason while Instagram said the video went against their community guidelines on nudity and sexual activity.

Twitter allows sexual content on it's site and flags explicit media before hiding it behind a warning that users have to click through to see.

They say: "We may place some forms of sensitive media like adult content or graphic violence behind an interstitial advising viewers to be aware that they will see sensitive media if they click through."

One reason may be that the video was seen as targeted abuse.

They said: "People are allowed to post content, including potentially inflammatory content, as long as they’re not violating the Twitter Rules. It’s important to know that Twitter does not screen content or remove potentially offensive content.

"As a policy, we do not mediate content or intervene in disputes between users. However, targeted abuse or harassment may constitute a violation of the Twitter Rules and Terms of Service."

Dublin Live has contacted the Department of An Taoiseach for comment.
