In response to the growing coronavirus pandemic, live streaming platform Twitch is putting on a special charity event.

Starting on Saturday, March 28, Twitch will bring together its community to “do what we do best, #stayhome, play games, and support a good cause”, the platform said in a statement.

The event will be live-streamed globally and will include performances from musicians Joe Jonas, Diplo, Charlie Puth and Die Antwoord.

Top athletes such as F1 star Lando Norris, golfer Greg Norman, and NFL cornerback Richard Shema will also compete against Twitch's top gaming stars in a Twitch Rivals contest.

Celeb will play rival games of Fortnite (Epic Games)

Twitch Stream Aid kicks off this Saturday, March 28 at 4pm GMT. All proceeds and donations made during Twitch Stream Aid will be donated to the Covid-19 Solidarity Response Fund for WHO.

Throughout the day there will be competitions featuring Fortnite and UNO, with celebrities playing games against each other.

The show will be punctuated with musical performances during breaks.

The event will start on twitch.tv/twitch but it's not the only charity opportunity on the platform. Stream Aid will kick off a week's worth of fundraising opportunities on Twitch where the community can continue to host their own individual steams and help raise money for the cause.

Throughout the show, Twitch will be combing the site to feature streamers who are live on Saturday and pull them into the broadcast. For a chance to be featured during Twitch Stream Aid, just go live on March 28 and tag the stream with the “TwitchStreamAid” tag so Twitch can find you.

Viewers will be able to donate to the cause throughout the show with, with all funds going to support the work of the WHO and its global fight to stop the spread of coronavirus.
