The Twins put All-Star third baseman Miguel Sano on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to Saturday, because of a left hamstring strain. Sano has five home runs, 14 RBIs and a .213 average in 20 games this season.
He was replaced on the roster by infielder Gregorio Petit, who was called up from Class AAA Rochester. Petit hit .293 with six RBIs in 17 games for the Red Wings.
The 33-year-old played in five major-league seasons, with 171 career games, for the A's, Astros, Yankees and Angels. His major-league average is .249, and he has four homers and 32 RBsI. He will wear No. 40 for the Twins.
Petit arrived at the ballpark with pitcher Fernando Romero, who will start on Wednesday against the Jays and wear No. 77.
