The American League named Twins center fielder Byron Buxton player of the month for April.
Buxton, in 18 games, hit .426 (29-for-68) with eight homers, 14 RBI, 15 runs, a .466 on-base percentage, an .897 slugging percentage and a 1.363 OPS.
He set Twins records for March/April in batting average, slugging percentage and OPS (min. 60 plate appearances). His OPS also set a new Twins record for any month, surpassing Joe Mauer's 1.338 mark in May 2009.
Buxton, 27, had a 10-game hitting streak and multiple hits in seven games.
Other MLB honorees for April are Ronald Acuna Jr. of Atlanta as NL player of the month; Gerrit Cole of the Yankees and Jacob deGrom of the Mets as pitchers of the month; Yermin Mercedes of the White Sox and Trevor Rogers of the Marlins as rookies of the month; and Matt Barnes of Boston and Mark Melancon of San Diego as relievers of the month.
