MINNEAPOLIS — The Twins went to extra innings for the seventh time this season, and for the seventh time they lost.
Willie Calhoun had an RBI single off Tyler Duffey in the top of the 10th to give Texas a 4-3 victory over the Twins at Target Field on Thursday afternoon.
The Twins failed to score in the bottom of the inning with a runner on second as Willians Astudillo and Josh Donaldson struck out and Miguel Sano flew out to right.
Max Kepler led off the game with a home run for the Twins, but the Rangers scored twice in the second off Michael Pineda on a home run from Joey Gallo and an RBI single from Isiah Kiner-Falefa.
Astudillo's two-run single in the third put the Twins ahead 3-2, but Texas catcher Brandon Heim tied it with a home run off reliever Hansel Robles in the seventh.
Twins center fielder Byron Buxton appeared to injure himself leaping for Heim's home run, and Buxton was clearly limping after he tried to beat out a ninth-inning grounder and left the game.
Nick Gordon made his major league debut for the Twins, and it was a good one. He had a walk, a single and stole two bases.
Pineda went six innings, gave up six hits and struck out five, and left with a 3-2 lead.
