Twinbrook security alert ongoing after "suspected" gun found

A security alert in ongoing in West Belfast after a suspected gun was found.

The bomb disposal unit is in the Twinbrook area following the discovery of the possible firearm.

Sinn Fein Councillor Daniel Baker is at the scene and tweeted: “Bomb scare in Twinbook, homes being evacuated. The 4 laner is closed please avoid the area.

“I will update when I know more.”

The PSNI confirmed they are “currently examining a suspected firearm which was found in the vicinity of Summerhill Road in Twinbrook earlier today”.

They added that Summerhill Road has been closed to traffic.

An image tweeted by Cllr Baker shows the bomb disposal truck at the scene. It is understood the robot has been deployed to examine the scene.
