A man in his 20s was attacked with a crowbar outside a house in West Belfast early on Monday morning.
It happened at Aspen Way in Twinbrook after 4am.
The man was hospitalised after the attack.
PSNI Detective Sergeant Fairfield said: "At around 4.10am, it was reported that a man in his 20s was assaulted outside a house in the area by a man armed with a crowbar. The man was taken to hospital for injuries to his head and left arm, that are not believed to be life threatening.
"We would like to speak with a man described as wearing a red and white striped hooded top and dark jeans in the area at the time of the assault, who may be able to assist with our enquiries.
"Our investigation is ongoing in relation to this incident and we would appeal to anyone with information especially with CCTV at the time of the incident to contact detectives on 101, quoting reference number 208 3/6/19.
"Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime."
