The baby giant panda twins at Tokyo's Ueno Zoo turned 1 month old Friday and both are now growing distinctive black and white panda fur.
The zoo released recent photos of the male and female babies born to their 16-year-old mother "Xin Xin," saying both are growing up in stable condition.
As it is difficult for Xin Xin to take care of them at the same time, the keepers watch over them around the clock and let the mother raise them one at a time, according to the Ueno Zoo.
The babies weighed a little over 100 grams immediately after birth, but the male now weighs 835 grams and the female 1,133 grams, the zoo said. They have also nearly doubled in length from about 15 centimeters to almost 30 centimeters. The babies also have started to grow bushy fur.
"Thanks to the hard work of the zookeepers, they can celebrate their first month of life. Both pandas are still small, so we want to take all possible precautions to keep them in good condition," said a zookeeper in charge of their care.
