And mum Emma and dad Scott said they knew as soon as they got the dates through that their boys would be starting on their fifth birthday.

Emma said: “We knew straight away when we saw the date. They were so excited, they couldn’t wait to start school.

“The age that they are they weren’t embarrassed to go in with birthday badges on. I also sent in a birthday cake for the class to share and they said afterwards they’d sang happy birthday to them.

“It made the day even more special for them.”

Scott, who’s the older twin by two minutes, and Colin enjoyed celebrating with their older sister Lucy, who's 16, and the rest of their family at home after their exciting first day.

Emma said: “It was OK seeing them start, it was a bit emotional. That’s them now, my babies are gone.

“The school have been fantastic, they’ve been really good with them and they’ve loved it so far.”
