Twin brothers found dead in Sunderland home died of 'unnatural' causes, inquest told

Twin brothers found dead in a Sunderland home died of "unnatural" causes, a coroner's court has heard.

Senior coroner for Sunderland Derek Winter opened an inquest into the deaths of James Davis, of Sefton Square, Springwell, Sunderland, and Eric Davis, of Springwell Road, Springwell, Sunderland, on Thursday.

The 63-year-olds were found dead at an address on Springwell Road on February 25.

At a brief opening at Sunderland Civic Centre, coroner's officer Neville Dixon confirmed the deaths were referred to the coroner's office after they appeared to be unnatural and said results of post-mortem examinations are pending.

On the death of James Davis, Mr Winter said: "At the present time the police are content there are no suspicious circumstances or third party involvement.

"I am satisfied that there is reason to suspect the death of James Davis was unnatural and in those circumstances an inquest should be heard."

The coroner's officer Neville Dixon also confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding Eric Davis's death.

Mr Winter added: "I am satisfied that there is reasonable cause to suspect that the death of Eric Davis was unnatural."

Northumbria Police confirmed emergency services attended an address on February 25 and found the bodies of two men inside.

Their deaths were being treated as "unexplained".

The inquests were adjourned until 27 May.
