Twiggy is 'so sorry' for struggling young designers

Sixties fashion legend Twiggy says she doesn’t go to fashion week anymore. “Oh, I get invited all the time,” she told the Londoner at The Biba Story exhibition preview last night. “Unless they’re my friends, I tend not to go. They always run late, there’s so many people and we’ve been really busy.” A show about her life, Close Up, opened at the Menier Chocolate Factory theatre in September last year and Twiggy was there watching her life back every week. “I’d sit there and cry for most of it,” she told us. Could it turn into a film? “Who knows,” she teased. “Watch this space.”

We asked her what she thinks of today’s fashion landscape. “I feel so sorry for young designers because it must be so hard. Some of the big boys have gone under so god only knows.” Dame Zandra Rhodes chimed in: “I think we’re going through a very difficult period and we’ve got to see how we develop from here.” Biba “changed the whole of High St Ken”. Twiggy added: “Barbara should come back. We need her.”

Tucci smells like parmesan, says Elizabeth Day

Stanley Tucci and Elizabeth Day (Dave Benett)

Podcaster and author Elizabeth Day says her actor friend Stanley Tucci’s irresistible appeal is, in part, down to his natural aroma. “Stanley Tucci smells like cherry blossom and freshly shaved parmesan,” she told an audience at The London Palladium last night. “He is utter loveliness and generosity of spirit,” she said, while promoting her new book, Friendaholic, during the live talk. “When you start writing a book you think it is a beautiful, old cathedral,” she said. “But by the end, you have written a perfectly serviceable garden shed.” We look forward to picking up a copy.
