A Northumberland micro-brewery is inviting beer-lovers to visit behind the scenes with the launch of £10 tours which include a tasting board and bottle of ale to take home.
The Twice Brewed Brew House, at Hadrian's Wall , has decided to open for weekend visits where customers can see how the popular beers are made and then sample the range on-site.
Following a trail run over Easter, the tours are now on offer every Saturday and Sunday from 4pm.
Its the latest innovative move from Twice Brewed following its a personalised label idea which won hearts and minds for Valentine's Day with customers offered the chance to surprise their loved one with bottles of beer featuring his or her own name on the front.
Then came success at the recent Newcastle Beer & Cider Festival when the brewery impressed judges of the annual battle of the beers Newcastle's Battle of the Beers - who won this year's festival competition? in the flavoured porter and stout category with its 5.3% cherry milk stout Nox.
Now it is going one step further with a programme of tours which are set to appeal to the visitor market who can make the most of the opportunity to explore Hadrian's Wall country when booking a tour at its premises situated opposite the iconic Sycamore Gap on the Military Road at Bardon Mill.
Twice Brewed has been producing ales in Northumberland since the summer of 2017 with its range named after its World Heritage site surroundings; its Roman history and paying homage to area's 200-year-old brewing heritage.
Among the options are Ale Caesar; Sycamore Gap; Northern Frontier and Steel Rigg.
Those signing up to the new tours will be able to watch the making of some of the signature beers in action, in the company of head brewer Matthew Brown and colleagues.
Matt said: "We’ve been doing tours on a bit of an ad hoc basis for a while now and the response has been so positive we thought we should put a package together so people could get it as a gift or book it as a nice day out.”
The tours will begin in the venue's Brew House before moving to the cosy confines of its Tap Room where a tasting platter of beers - tailored to individual tastes - will served up in front of the wood-burning stove.
Matt said: “It’s a really nice space to enjoy a few beers and introduce people to the products; getting to experience the flavours and aromas of our beer, and how we achieve these with the methods and techniques they have just witnessed in the Brew House.
The tours themselves also can be tailored to personal interests.
He added: "Some people are already pretty knowledgeable about brewing so they might be particularly interested in getting quite detailed about specific elements of the what we do at Twice Brewed, like the chemistry behind it."
"Others may have never given what it takes to make a great beer a second thought, in which case we would start at a much more introductory level; taking them through it step by step.”
Matt is looking forward to some interesting conversation, saying: “I absolutely love brewing and I can talk about beer until the cows come home!"
