John Lennon Airport anticipates that the number of fans flying out for the UEFA Champions League final will be double the number who travelled to last year's final in Kiev.
According to representatives from the airport , nearly 12,000 fans are booked to fly out to Madrid next weekend in the run-up to the final.
The airport estimates that last year, around 6,000 people flew out to watch the Reds take on Real Madrid.
In anticipation of this year's match, the airport has said it will be running 20 additional flights on Friday, May 31 and 32 extra flights on Saturday, June 1 - the day of the final itself.
Bigger planes such as the Boeing 747 jumbo jet and the Boeing 787 Dreamliner will also be in use over the weekend.
Robin Tudor, head of PR for Liverpool John Lennon Airport said: "This will once again be one of the airport’s busiest ever periods, with a tremendous amount of planning and co-ordination well underway to ensure that we can handle as many fans flights as possible, so that thousands of Liverpool supporters can take advantage of the added convenience of being able to fly to and from Madrid via their local airport.
"However, as well as helping as many Liverpool fans as possible travel to Madrid from here, our priority will also be to give the thousands of other passengers travelling through the Airport to a host of other European destinations unrelated to the Champions League Final , the faster, easier, friendlier passenger experience that LJLA is well known for."
According to Mr Tudor, last-minute travellers to Madrid will have to act fast to snap up the best deals.
He said: “We have put a page on our website to help fans looking to travel from here to Madrid with details of the airlines and operators putting on flights from Liverpool, with a link shown on our website home page - www.liverpoolairport.com ."
The match, taking place in Madrid’s Wanda Metropolitano Stadium, will see the Reds aim to win a sixth European cup as they take on Tottenham Hotspur.
Whatever the outcome, Liverpool FC will make history this summer - as the match marks only the second all-English Champions League final.
The last time two English teams dominated the final was in 2008 at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium, when saw Manchester United won the trophy on penalties against Chelsea .
