Recruits fresh from the Garda training college in Tipperary will be sent to Drogheda in a bid to tackle the bloody gang feud.
Commissioner Drew Harris said that 25 officers who will graduate from the college in Templemore in June will be stationed in the Co Louth town.
Louth Garda Representative Association spokesman, Garda Derek O’Donoghue, said: “This measure is welcome and appreciated.
“It will help the policing requirements in Drogheda.”
The move was also welcomed by Louth Sinn Fein TD Gerry Adams - but he said that more needs to be done to address the issues in the entire constituency.
He said: “The significant escalation in violence and intimidation by drug gangs demands a robust response from the Garda. I therefore welcome today’s announcements.

“However, the drug crisis and the associated violence it brings from gangs extends beyond Drogheda.
“In recent months my colleagues and I have dealt with a number of families in the north Louth area that have been the victims of threats and attacks from these drug gangs.
“The gangs are demanding money from families for alleged drug debts of individual family members.
“I would urge the Garda Commissioner to address this issue as a Louth issue and ensure that any additional resources of personnel be extended to the whole constituency.”
