Twenty customers trapped inside pub surrounded by armed police in 'siege'

Around 20 customers are trapped inside a pub in the UK as armed police shut off the surrounding area.

A member of staff at The Lair, in Hull, said customers were told to "get in" and keep away from the windows.

He has since shut the shutters and blinds around the main window at the front of the pub, Mirror.co.uk reports.

He said: “Customers went to have a look at what was going on outside the front and police shouted at them, ‘Get in, get in. Get away from the windows.’

“So I’ve shut the main shutters and closed the blinds and got everybody away from the windows.”

Roads in the area had been blocked off with a large police presence at the scene, locals said.

One eyewitness told HullLive: “Loads of armed police just turned up and sealed the other block of flats in the front near town end.

“There are about 20 police cars, armed police everywhere, it is sealed off from Park Street to both blocks off Cambridge Street flats all the way to town and all other streets near St Lukes Street, nearly all taped off.”

Another eyewitness described trying to walk past the scene and being told to “get the f*** back” by armed officers.
