Twelve neighbourhoods in Sefton where Covid is 'suppressed'

Coronavirus infection numbers in Sefton have fallen by more than a third in the past two weeks.

The borough’s infection rate has fallen to 51 new cases per 100,000 people in the week ending March 8.

This is the lowest rate in the borough since September 9.

Every other borough in the Liverpool City Region has also seen a decline in cases this week.

St Helens has Merseyside’s highest rate – 75 per 100,000 – while Liverpool’s rate is 48 per 100,000 people.

Wirral has the Liverpool City Region’s lowest infection rate, at 29 per 100,000.

As of March 14, more than 125,000 doses of the vaccine had been administered in Sefton.

For government data collection purposes, Sefton is divided into 38 neighbourhoods.

The area known as Southport High Park is currently Sefton’s worst impacted neighbourhood.

As of, March 13 its infection rate stands at 154 per 100,000 people, a 9% increase from seven days previously.

The part of Sefton which saw the highest increase in infection is the area known as Orrell.

Its number of positive cases jumped from two to seven – a 350% increase, albeit from a low base.

Twelve neighbourhoods are noted as currently having “suppressed” the virus – this means there were just two or fewer confirmed cases.

This is up from eleven neighbourhoods in the previous week.

Data is not shown for areas with fewer than 3 cases to protect individuals’ identities.

These neighbourhoods are:

Crossens, Marshside, Southport South, Ainsdale West, Ainsdale East, Formby Central and Freshfield South, Formby South West, Maghull North West and Lydiate, Maghull North East, Maghull South East, Aintree West and Old Roan, and Brighton le Sands and Crosby West.

Areas with rates that are lower than 50 per 100,000 include:Formby West and Freshfield North, Blundellsands, Ford, Crosby East, Seaforth North, Seaforth South, Litherland South, and Bootle East.
