11 missing after fishing boat is engulfed in flames out at sea

Some 11 fishing crew members are missing after their boat caught fire off the coast of South Korea.

The police and military have launched a frantic search operation for survivors 47 miles west of South Korea's Chagwido Island, in Jeju.

Early reports said 12 people were missing, however one sailor was subsequently found, Yonhap reports.

At least seven police boats, four helicopters and a naval vessel are taking part in the rescue operation, along with a variety of other aircraft and ships, according to Headline Jeju.

It comes little over a month after an oil tanker burst into flames in South Korea.

A sailor was left fighting for his life and eight others were injured in the fire, which broke out on the Stolt Groenland, a 25,000-tonne, Cayman Island-flagged vessel, at the southern port of Ulsan.

Dramatic images showed a huge mushroom cloud of fire towering above the ships.

There were 25 sailors aboard, including Russians and Filipinos, with the fire spreading to another unspecified oil tanker docked nearby.

All of the sailors on the Stolt Groenland and another 21 aboard the other ship were rescued.

The Coast Guard launched an investigation into the cause of the incident.
