A frustrated councillor has tweeted his own chief executive over IT problems at Leeds council which downed some computers for three working days.
Headingley Liberal Democrat councillor Jamie Matthews yesterday tweeted new Leeds council chief executive Tom Riordan after the council had undegone three days of computer problems which had prevented sending emails.
Matthews - @jamiematthews84 - tweeted:
"@tomriordon could you tell me why an organisation of 35,000 can go without computers for 3 days? I'd like to answer my constituents."
This issues were also raised by Burmantofts and Richmond Hill councillor Ralph Pryke at yesterday evening's Richmond Hill Forum meeting.
He apologised to the 40 or so residents attending the meeting for the lack of a printed agenda:
"I've not been able to send or receive anything since last week. To some extent we are flying blind at the moment."
It's understood the computers and back up and running today - although some emails were still being delayed - and that, emails aside, there was minimal disruption to the public. The council-run Leeds Grand Theatre is also still experiencing some problems with its box office system.
A council spokeswoman said steps were being taken to ensure there was no repeat of the problems. She added:
"Due to a city wide power cut on Thursday, 2 September, and a subsequent power surge, a number of key ICT services were affected.
"ICT services worked through the night to restore services, but there were inevitable problems trying to get such large numbers of staff back online in such a short space of time.
"ICT services have now been fully restored, and a full investigation into the problems is now under way as a priority. All possible steps are being taken to prevent this happening in the future.
"We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused."
