TV viewers left confused as BBC One appeared to go off air tonight

BBC One was pulled off air after facing some major technical difficulties on Monday evening.

Viewers on the channel were met with a red screen and an apology message for more than 10 minutes.

It said: "We are sorry for the break in this programme and are trying to correct the fault."

The voiceover repeatedly apologised telling viewers: "We are working very hard to get our programmes back on air, and when we can, we’ll have something for you to watch."

People then took to Twitter to complain that there was no sound.

TV critic and broadcaster Scott Bryan tweeted: "This is rare. BBC One has fallen over. It has been like this for more than five minutes."

Another posted: "I wonder if it’s just me or are 6 million other people currently watching a red screen?"

Another commented on the 'panic' behind the voiceover's voice, tweeting: "BBC One is broken and this is honestly the best live TV I’ve had in weeks listening to the voice over guy panic whilst updating everyone."

Another joked: "Get whoever works in the BBC One network transmission rooms a big bottle of whiskey. Each."

Others reflected on the year we've had with the pandemic, with one Twitter user sharing: "2020 IS EVEN TOO MUCH FOR BBC ONE NOW!!!".

BBC One is yet to officially comment on the disruption.
