Best shows on TV tonight

Van Der Valk season 3, 8 pm, ITV1

The third and final episode of this current series takes a sinister and spooky turn when a member of an occult group meets a grisly end. Piet Van Der Valk (Marc Warren) and his team, including new recruit Eddie Suleman (Azan Ahmed), are called to a deserted mansion where a magic ritual to evoke a demon has gone horribly wrong. Former Casualty star Olivia D’Lima plays Katya Alsteen, whose grandfather is the group leader and who is found cowering in a corner next to the victim. Meanwhile, Eddie is freaked out when inexplicable hoof marks are found near the body and Piet’s ex Lina (Loes Haverkort) is in serious danger when she finds herself sucked into the case…

Evacuation, 9 pm, Channel 4

The dramatic story behind the military scramble to evacuate civilians and soldiers from Afghanistan is told here, with testimony from those who served and those they tried to evacuate. In 2021, as allied forces began returning home, the Taliban marched towards Kabul and an urgent military evacuation of all British nationals and eligible Afghans got underway.

But it proved more dangerous than anyone had anticipated, as Taliban fighters breached the airfield, a suicide bomb went off, and British soldiers were forced to leave behind hundreds of civilians. Continues until Tuesday.

Coastguard, 9 pm, Channel 5

The daring rescue of three fishermen whose trawler has sunk in the freezing North Sea is caught on camera in the first of this series looking at the extraordinary work of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency. With their helicopter hovering overhead, the rescue team face a race against time to save the crew as they battle rising swells and powerful winds.

Meanwhile, in Devon, a 70-year-old man with serious heart issues has become stuck in thick mud in a ravine. Then, with light fading and temperatures plummeting, rescue becomes even more difficult when all phone contact is lost…

And Just Like That season 2, Sky Comedy

The series follows best friends Carrie, Charlotte and Miranda in their 50s. Now older and wiser, they're all embarking on new adventures.

In season 1, Carrie's husband Mr. Big (Chris Noth) died of a heart attack in the first episode, setting Carrie on a collision course with life as a widow. Slowly but surely she's bouncing back and rediscovering herself, and trying to find love again.

The first two episodes dropped on Thursday, June 22 with episodes airing weekly.

Best film on TV tonight

Finding Dory, 3:15 pm, BBC One

Imaginatively scheduled before a repeat of Spy in the Ocean, this follow-up to the Oscar-winning Finding Nemo doesn’t quite hit the heights (or should that be depths?) of the first film. But it’s still a very enjoyable family film for a Sunday afternoon, with the welcome addition of some cockney sea lions (voiced by former The Wire co-stars Idris Elba and Dominic West). The story concerns blue tang fish Dory (Ellen DeGeneres) as she searches for her parents, helped by Nemo (Hayden Rolence) and his dad (Albert Brooks)– until Dory finds herself lost and alone in a California marine park.
