Best TV shows on TV tonight

Champion, 9:15 pm, BBC One

The fallout from last week’s events is hitting both Champion siblings hard – Bosco (Malcolm Kamulete) is trending on social media for all the wrong reasons, and he’s living with his mum after losing his flat. Meanwhile, Vita (Déja J Bowens) is on the verge of landing a deal with a major record company, but every single one of her relationships lies in tatters. ‘Winners only’ is the blunt pep talk from dad Beres (Ray Fearon) to Bosco, but his sister is the only person who knows how fragile he really is. Can they find a way of working together?

The Voice Kids, 7 pm, ITV1

Kids grow up so fast and The Voice Kids isn’t with us for very long, either. Tonight is the big one, the final, as Pixie Lott, will.i.am, Ronan Keating and Danny Jones go into battle, as the superstar coaches urge their talented youngsters onwards to glory (they hope). With a seven-night trip to Universal Orlando Resort in Florida to play for, the competition is bound to be fierce. And fun!

Casualty, 8:25 pm, BBC One

To mark 75 years of the NHS, this special episode showcases the immense teamwork that goes into treating just one patient – with testimony from real-life medics woven into tonight’s drama. As paramedics Teddy and Jan find biker Amartya (Taqi Nazeer) trapped under a van with life-threatening injuries after being hit by a car, it’s a race against time to get him to Holby ED.

With the air ambulance team, consultant Stevie and heart surgeon Eli (Holby City’s Davood Ghadami, guest starring) all involved in Amartya’s care, will Holby’s collective efforts see him pull through? If this poignant story doesn’t highlight why our emergency services should be rewarded, nothing will.

Becoming Elizabeth, 9:15 pm, Channel 4

Action-packed with intrigue and forbidden love, this heady eight-part drama begins with the death of Henry VIII in 1547. A young Elizabeth Tudor becomes an orphaned teenager embroiled in the political and sexual politics of the English court. With the King now gone, Henry’s widow, Catherine Parr (Call the Midwife’s Jessica Raine), wastes no time in marrying her handsome lover, Thomas Seymour (Tom Cullen).

However, tensions start mounting and a simmering rivalry begins when Thomas’ wandering eye alights on his new wife’s youthful stepdaughter, Elizabeth (Alicia von Rittberg). First shown on Starzplay last year, it’s exhilarating viewing now on free-to-air TV.

Is It Cake Too?Netflix

In Is It Cake Too?, a fresh batch of bakers who specialize in hyperrealistic bakes are tasked once again to make the most unlikely objects out of cake — this time around, think baseball gloves, weekender bags, toilets, and even the Mona Lisa herself — with the hopes of deceiving a slew of seasoned chefs and celebrity guests.

The new season sees 10 chefs hoping to take home their share of a $120,000 prize pot, so there's everything to bake for.

Best film on TV tonight

Armageddon Time, 10:25 pm, Sky Premiere

Fans of tender family dramas should make a date with writer-director James Gray’s retelling of his own early years. As the stand-in for Gray, Banks Repeta plays Paul, the troublesome kid in 1980s America growing up with a yearning to be an artist, something his parents won’t hear of. The parents, by the way, are played by Succession’s Jeremy Strong and Anne Hathaway, while young Paul’s grandfather – who encourages him in all the wrong ways – is played by Anthony Hopkins.

With Jessica Chastain popping in for a cameo, this film is not short of big guns, but it’s so well-observed and recalls the period so well, it would probably be okay without them.

  • Wimbledon Finals, from 11am, BBC Two , BBC One, iPlayer
